On Usenet, the files that are posted on a newsgroup

Binaries ou binaires
The "binaries" or "binary" is just a binary encoding files. We find the binary files on groups whose extension contains "binary" as "alt.binaries.movies.divx. The group name indicates contents, here in this group include such films in Divx.

Completion ou Complétude
On Usenet there is a loss the size of files when they are shared by the news server. No server, even the most serious, can not propose a completeness of 100%. The completeness is very important because you can find complete files with 70% for example by choosing a bad Usenet Provider.

Connection time out
When a server fails to connect after a while, this kind of error appears.

Crosspost
A post called Crosspost is a post that is performed on several groups simultaneously.

Header
Generally refers to the title of an article on a newsgroup. You can download the headers without necessarily downloading the file contents

Newsreader, grabber
Program to download binary files available on newsgroups. The newsreaders denote more generally, programs that download messages (ie Outlook Express), while grabbers involve downloading binaries (ie Grabit, Newsleecher ...)

Newsserver, usenet server
Server that allows the user to download or upload files to the newsgroups

NFO
File containing information about the post belongs. Readable with a simple notepad!

NZB
File containing all the message-ID of parts of a post. With this file you can download files without having to download headers.

PAR et PAR2
The PAR & PAR2 files are available on the newsgroups and can repair a corrupted RAR file.

Rétention
Number of days that files remain on the servers. Currently the serious servers offer 500 days. The longest retention is Giganews with days.

Resellers
Avoid all the newsgroups server offering limited downloads to 500 per day for example. They are resellers (they buy gigas and resell them under their name) often inefficient and can cease all activities overnight.

SFV
SFV Simple File Verification. Program scanning files on a post indicating if the downloaded files are complete or not.
